A CHRISTMAS CAST!

Well, I have another holiday cast! It was 2 years ago I had the same thing - only my cast was red and I put battery powered lights on it. I guess all you can do is add a bit of humor to the whole situation huh?! Only a week to go until I get this thing off after 6 weeks and hopefully I won't be back with another one. I am so ready to walk! My house needs a good cleaning, pantry re-organized, put Christmas decorations away-the list goes on and on. I hate having to ask everyone for things-drives me crazy! I am dying to get going on my scrapbooking and quilting again-I miss my craft room!!!!!

Altered Frame Swap

Here is the frame I made for my partner Samantha. We had to take a dollar frame from M's and alter it for Christmas! I had so much fun making this for Samantha - I was so glad she liked it!

Christmas Cookie Layout Swap

I was so excited for this swap--thank you AmyS!!!!!! We had to make 20 8x8 layouts of the recipe we chose and we get 20 back! It is such a great idea- as soon as I get my pages I will use my Bind it All and post the finished product with everyone's amazing layouts!
Here is mine: I picked Butterscotch Gingerbread Cookies for my recipe and made little gingerbread stickpins to go on the layout! So much fun to make!

And here is the pin cushion on it's way to my partner Liz! We had to have one Cricut cut on them-so the scarecrow is a cut from the Doodlecharms cartridge. I had so much fun making this! I made seven stick pins to go with the cushion. I hope she likes it!

Halloween Wreaths

Hi crafters! These are the two wreaths I made for Halloween this year to hang on our front doors. The circles are made entirely out of paper! These were super fun to make and look cute! Best of all-you can use up that old stash of papers from years past. Thank you to everyone on the Cricut MB who also did these--you inspire me!

It has been a very rough week. Last Thursday-we had to put my furr-baby Ryley to sleep. He was in pain and so uncomfortable-he had lost hearing and sight-it just wasn't fair to him. He was by my side every day for the last 15 years. I miss him so much but take comfort in knowing that he is playing frisbee once again in Heaven. See you at Rainbow Bridge buddy - and have fun playing with Kahlua!

Well - I did it. I broke down and bought myself an Imagine. I know I know----those of you that know me know that I just now unpacked and started using my E2. It is awesome and I love it---I know alot of people had trouble with it--but mine cuts like a dream. So----why did I get an Imagine? Because it is amazing. I just love that I can print out my own paper!!! I love the cuts on the cartridges and that I can cut them in layers or not. Perfect for cards and scrapbook pages. It is on it's way--along with 3 cartridges so I can start playing. I cannot wait--so I am stalking my mailman :)

BABY SHOES!!!

My beautiful grandbaby is crawling around - well she does the "wounded soldier" and she is pulling herself up so it was time to go get her first fitted pair of pre-walking shoes. We went to surprise Auntie at her work and then went to Nordie to get shoes. Here she is walking with a bit of help from Mommy!

Yesterday was so FUN! I met so many nice ladies from all over Southern CA and North CA and we got to me our Aussie friend! Unfortunately I didn't get much done--I was supposed to start my new Grandbaby's scrapbook---but all I did was mat a bunch of her pictures and that is it! I spent too much time yakin' away!!! That's ok-I wouldn't have done anything different since I was able to get to know my new friends! I never knew there were so many Circlets around me! Hopefully PC will give us California girls a swarm like the other states--that way we could have had a weekend to chat - eat - craft -repeat!! Thanks for carpooling with me Cindy and Kitty---we will always have our FUN adventure driving home! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Well - as all of you know-our first grandbaby-a girl-is due any time now!!! We are so excited to meet her and see her little face and watch as that little miracle meets her mommy and daddy for the first time! Jen and Daniel are doing great-a little anxious and a lot excited! Jen is getting so big and uncomfortable-the other day she said she wanted this baby out NOW!! I remember those days! We are so very lucky that the pregnancy has been great and Jen and McKenna are doing wonderful. We are expecting a healthy baby girl!!

I'm Gonna Be a GRANDMA!!!

As most of you know by now I am going to be a Grandma! Jen and Daniel are having a baby girl - McKenna Grace - on or about December 9th. We will have a new little one for Christmas! It is so much fun buying stuff for a baby girl again. I have to reign myself in a bit or I will buy out every store that sells baby clothes! :) I have set up "McKenna's corner" as I call it - her port a crib and bouncer in the den so when we get to babysit everything will be here. I remember the days of having to pack up the whole nursery just to go drop the kids off at Grandma's. We hated that. I don't want Jen and Daniel to have to bring anything but baby McKenna. Besides it gives me a chance to spoil myself with baby stuff right?! Jen's pregnancy has gone great. She is getting bigger by the day. This pic was taken in Maui at 16 weeks. Needless to say she is much bigger now. I will post a new pic when I can get one. Hopefully I will keep this up to date a little better!!!

WOW round 8 already!! I have been in this swap for 4 rounds now. It is a really fun swap hosted by my best friend Rhonda on the Cricut MB. Rhonda posts a word or words every few days for a whole 30 days. You have to go out and buy/make this item for your partner. You get to know your partner by chatting on the boards or pm-ing her. It is so much FUN! Here are a couple pics of the box I sent to my partner Kim.

Hey everyone--hope you had a great Monday. For some reason, after last Tuesday's chemo, I have been sooooooo tired!! I need to get some crafting done for some of my swaps too. I really don't like when I get this reaction--it isn't like I need a nap-it is like 4-5 hours of sleep that I need! It's very hard to get anything done like this. I hope tomorrow is not like this. I want to thank everyone for all your thoughts and prayers for Jess. She is having such a hard time right now after the murder of her friend over this past weekend. She came home from work tonight and cried again and said she is really scared. Scared to walk to her car, scared to go workout, just scared. Knowing this murdering coward is out there is taking its toll on her. We hope and pray that he is caught very soon! Your prayers are so comforting. We have our faith to keep us strong, and more than ever she will need prayer and God's love. She is such a gentle, loving soul and I do not want this horrible tragedy to change that. Only time will heal these wounds. We just need to love her and let her cry on our shoulder. Tomorrow is a new day!

A New Year!

WOW!! Where did 2009 go? I blinked and it was gone! My kids are continuing to grow as adults, beginning new and exciting changes in their lives. Jen and Daniel just got a house! We are so excited for them. They bought in Brea so they are close to us, which we love. So they now plan to start a family! I can't wait for a baby to be around again. Jess is in a great job in her industry, but the drive is getting to her. She is on the road for almost 4 hours a day! Jim is continuing at Fullerton College finishing up his general education, then he has to decide which college to transfer to - to continue his goal to be a physical therapist.

I haven't been good at keeping my blog up to date with pictures of my crafts, etc. but I will try to be better about that this year!

I hope 2010 is good to you all!!!

Thanksgiving

Well, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday! We were at my brother's house and everyone was there this year. It is getting so hard to get together with everyone because the kids are getting scattered around. But-all the cousins were together and it was such a blessing to see them now, all grown up - and it seemed like yesterday they were all running around the house getting into things. We sat and talked for hours. It was truly a blessed day! I will post pics as soon as I get them!

FOOTBALL SEASON!!

Well, it's football season so I probably won't be posting as much as I want to. This year our beloved 49ers look like they are going to be strong! My Packers look good too. And, above all else, our Bruins look amazing! I know it's early in the season, but I'm predicting my teams to have a great year! I LOVE FOOTBALL!!!

Doc Thank Yous

Well, physicals for the high schools are over!! We had 10 MD's, 2 Orthopedic surgeons, and 1 internal medicine MD to help us with all of the schools. We had a record # of students flooding through the gyms. As with every year, I had to come up with something for them to say thank you. They really don't want anything big -so I made these. I used the small clear pails, put one of our gym towels in it, our pens (they all demand them!) and our letter openers. I made white coats and used stickles to put MD on them. Cut out thanks and banners,glued them to the craft sticks and that is it! Oh, and of course, Starbucks cards! Super easy and they LOVED them!! They were fun to make and Jess and I had a great time filling them up!

Making t-shirts with your Cricut is EASY!!

Below are the t's I made for the Lupus Walk my family walked in for me. I used my Cricut Expression and freezer paper for these. For the letters/words, I used the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge. You just type in your words BACKWORDS and use the FLIP feature. This will make your text print correctly onto the freezer paper. Cut your freezer paper to fit your 12x12 or 12x24 mat. Put the shiny side of the paper down, it adheres better. Then press cut. Now you have made a custom stencil! For the butterflies, I used Graphically Speaking and Storybook. I typed in the image I wanted - in this case a butterfly, selected my size and press cut. The image prints onto the freezer paper. After everything is printed out, it's time to iron on your stencil to the shirts. Set your iron on high, NO STEAM! Place a piece of freezer paper inside your shirt so that no paint runs through to the other side. Place your freezer paper stencil shiny side down, press hard for about 15 seconds until your stencil is stuck to the shirt. After your stencils are ironed on-use fabric paint and paint in your text and designs. Let dry for a few hours. That's it--customize any shirt any time you want!

WALK for LUPUS

Here are the t's I made with my Cricut and freezer paper for the Lupus Walk. People thought we had these shirts custom made! They couldn't believe I made them with fabric paint-they look like they are silk-screened! All 6 of us walked for me last Saturday at the Great Park in Irvine. We made the 3 mi trip and had a blast! We laughed and joked--Jess and Jimmy ran the last 1 1/2 miles. Weather was wonderful for all of us LUPUS patients!!!

There was a comment on a msg bd about the favorite place in our scrapbook rooms, and it got me thinking. So, here are a few pics, plus 1 of my Daisy. I love the island because I can stand or sit while I scrap. Plus, when the girls have time to come over we can all sit or stand around and have plenty of room. Well, the fridge, snack drawer and coffee pot are a plus too.

Family News

I am finally finishing up my room--what a project! But it is all worth it. I love it but at the same time sad because it used to be both of my girls' room over the last 16 years we have lived here. I love my island so I can stand and work--much better on my joints!

Speaking of--thank you for all of your prayers. I get my infusions on Friday and am out of commission until about Monday, give or take. At least this time I didn't lose my hair (so far)! No change in movement/pain yet but the doctor said give it a few more weeks then go to something stronger if this isn't helping.

Hope all is well! Jenny and Daniel just put a offer in on their first house! Close by so my prayers were answered on that one! Jen is still busy at Childrens' Hospital LA in the PICU and loves it! Daniel's job is not in jeopardy at the bank praise God! Jess is freelancing and Jim is plucking away at general ed.

I don't have time to scrapbook.

I have heard this at least a million times!

My answer to that - Everyone has time to scrapbook. I think that some people expect that if they become a scrapbooker, they will need to set aside hours and hours and not have anything else going on.

That is simply not true. With the diseases I suffer from, I never know when I will have a good day or a bad day. My hands may not be functioning. If I have even 30 minutes I can complete a page. Then a page is suddenly a whole book. It is the memories of our family that I am preserving. It is something I know my family will have forever.

Scrapbooking is not hard, it's telling your story and preserving your family's memories forever.

Many people I know spend alot of time on vacation with family during the year. They take trips annually. They have traveled around the world. They go to family reunions and meet their Great-Great Grandparents and cousins for the first time. Amazing family stories about their family that they never heard before.

Who will tell those stories forever and forever? Do pictures that are in boxes? Does a slide show on a computer? What about a disc with 200 or more pictures? No words, no emotion, no telling the story that surrounds each picture. In a few years, let alone in a few generations, most people won't even remember everything that was going on when they see a picture that is pulled out of a box. Who they were with, where they were, or even the dates.

That is why you need to scrapbook.

Still don't think you have the time to scrapbook?

It is only time consuming if you let it be.

Now that our kids are older and moving on with their lives, it makes me realize the importance of what I am creating.

Years from now, kids and grandkids will begin to make an appearance. More than ever I know the importance of preserving our memories. Then, someday when I am gone, they will know what happened in my life because I took the time to scrapbook.

They will bring the memories to life.
